Introduction to Adobe Illustrator Session I - Tuesday, November 13th from 6:00 - 9:00 pm Session II - Tuesday, November 20th from 6:00-9:00pm Session III - Tuesday, November 27th from 6:00-9:00pm Camille Murphy Bugden, Designer and Creative Director
Bring your creative ideas to life with Adobe Illustrator, the industry-standard vector graphics software, used by designers and illustrators who want to create digital graphics, logos, illustrations, and original typography. This workshop is designed to get you up and running with Adobe Illustrator in just three days. The focus will be on step-by-step instruction leading students through the most important tools and concepts in Illustrator.
Session I - The Basics + Page Layout (11/16)
The first session of this class will focus on the basics, including opening or starting a new file, understanding the Adobe Illustrator interface, using the view options, and learning how to set up a full one-page layout with headline and body text from start to finish.
Session II - Illustration (11/20)
The second session of the class will focus on learning how to illustrate with Adobe Illustrator. Students will learn how to use the pen tool, pencil tool and brushes to bring their ideas to life and create an original illustration from a scanned pencil sketch. (Students can work from sketches provided by the instructor, or work from their own sketches). Special techniques and tips for creating more professional quality illustrations will be demonstrated.
Session III - Logo Design (11/27)
The third session of the class will focus on logo design using Adobe Illustrator. Students will learn how to create professional quality logos from sketch to final art in class using the text, shape, pen, alignment, pathfinder, transform and other tools. Tips for good design and strong typography will be demonstrated.
Student Takeaways:
Learn the basics: how to open a file, image trace, add text, use layers and brushes.
Cover vector line art illustration using the pen tool.
Level Pre-Requisites: This is an introductory course designed for first time and beginning Illustrator users. No prior experience with Illustrator is required for this class.
Preparation: All students must be able to bring a laptop to each class (Mac preferred). You will need to have Adobe Illustrator version CS4 or higher already downloaded on this laptop for the start of class. The full version of Adobe Illustrator CS6 or the free 30-day trial version of it can be found at http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrator
Camille Murphy Bugden is a Designer and Creative Director with a specialty in branding and marketing. She has over ten years of experience working in publishing, marketing and higher education. Her former client list includes Sony, HBO, Marvel, Nickelodeon, Penguin Books, Upperdeck, New York City Public Schools, and Barnes and Noble. Camille holds a masters in Communication Design from Pratt Institute. Currently, Camille resides in Brooklyn, NY and works as a designer and creative director on a contract basis. She is also a part-time professor at Parsons the New School for Design and Pratt Institute, here in New York. http://www.camillebugden.com
