Description

Starting a Career In Entertainment Later in Life

There are amazing opportunities for middle aged and older people in entertainment. Baby boomers don't want to watch teenie boppers on TV or listen to 13 year olds sing about love. Grown ups want multi-dimensional characters that represent their ideals, experiences and aesthetics, and producers of entertainment are taking notice.

The appetite for age appropriate entertainment means that now is a great time for middle aged and older people to embark upon or return to a career in entertainment. If you have ever wanted a career (or hobby) in television or film, theater, radio, comedy, arts, performance, dance, music, or writing, this is a great time to start.

This class is designed as a step-by-step guide to starting (or returning to) a career in entertainment later in life and includes:

  • Age Appropriate Entertainment & Why It Matters Now
  • Starting a Career (or Hobby) in Entertainment
  • Understanding and Meeting Industry Standards
  • Who Are You & What Do You Have To Offer?
  • Branding, Head Shots, & Show Reels
  • Auditioning
  • Opportunities in College Student Projects
  • Opportunities in Indie Productions
  • Opportunities in Clubs, Galleries, & Performance Spaces
  • Opportunities in Theater
  • Opportunities in Television & Film
  • Working With Agents & Producers
  • Creating a Fan Base
  • Using Social Media
  • Reviews & How To Get Them
  • Courting the Media
  • Steady Work
  • Returning to Entertainment After a Hiatus
  • In this class you will discover the terrific opportunities available to middle aged and older people in TV and film, theater, radio, art, comedy, music, dance, performance art, and writing. You will learn how to create a personal brand, find opportunities, audition, create a fan base, and build your career.

The 3 hour class is limited to 12 people. The class will be tailored to the interests of participants and there will be time after the class to discuss your interests privately. No experience is necessary, but those returning to creative industries after a hiatus are also encouraged to join in.
