EVENT DETAILS |

This is a foundational class for getting started with 3D printed wearable designs. It is the first in a series of three sessions that each focus on a set of modeling techniques that enable various capabilities and aesthetic effects. You should consider taking the Accelerated 3D Printing class as a prerequisite, as it will familiarize you with the materials and processes used in 3D printing.

We'll outline a specific workflow designed for accessibility, which uses the latest 3D scanning techniques to simplify creation of custom-fit designs. You'll be provided with easy-to-learn software and printed instructions for a flexible workflow that can be adapted to a variety of design contexts. The class also includes a selection of 3D designs for clasps and fasteners to add functionality. We'll also review your scanning options and help you find the right resource for your project.

This class covers:

-3D scanning methods and quality

-Working with 3D resulting scan data.

-Creating mesh patterns and preserving design intent

-Forming structures from mesh patterns.

-Managing complexity and sectioning of designs

-Volumetric reconstruction, smoothing, and data reduction for printability

-Printing and finishing

Future sessions will move on to more advanced topics like topolical and subdivision modeling, surface-modeling (NURBS), designing and modifying fasteners and other functional parts, parametric design, and procedural/generative pattern design.

For more information about this class and about what's possible with printed wearables, come to our free info session on November 25th: 3D Printing for Wearable Tech-Performance and Fashion.
