About the Jam

Join us in February for the annual Global Service Design Jam in NYC! We bring together a diverse group of thinkers and makers for a weekend of collaboration, investigation, friendly competition (and maybe some dancing!). Across the weekend, teams can expect to create new services through an human-centered design process. Our mentors are there to guide you through the process and we end the event with a full-team share-out.

NYC is one of the 100+ cities around the world participating in the weekend event.

The Service Design Jam is a weekend-long workshop held every year in late Feb/early March. The goal is to develop new services, including brainstorming, researching, prototyping, and sharing. After revealing the Jam's secret theme on Friday night, we'll break into teams and start working. The challenge is to identify and understand a real-world need, ideate and prototype concepts, and deliver a solution by Sunday afternoon. It's no wonder a 2016 participant said, I'm so exhausted but I had so much fun!

You will have an awesome time and connect with passionate people from your community, and from all over the globe. You will make cool prototypes and pieces of work like videos, customer journeys, service blueprints and more! You will experience how a structured innovation process can produce robust, concrete and human-centered results, in just one weekend. This is a weekend for you to ask Why like a kid, dream big, forget convention, and just make stuff. So put your design thinking hat on, and let your creativity fly!

You can jam as many times as you want, but the first time is unforgettable. If it is your first time, remember to embrace it. Try not to question what is offered for you as experience, try to approach everything with a yes and attitude.

FAQs

Will I be fed?

Yes! We have included food in our ticket price because the Jam moves fast and we want to keep distractions low and energy high! If you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know in our registration form once purchase your ticket to the Jam.

What if I can only attend one day of the Jam?
The 2017 Jam runs from Friday evening on the 17th to Sunday the 19th, and largely your time is spent in teams. To be fair to your future teammates and to ensure the best possible experience for you, please plan to attend every day of the event. We understand that people have other obligations, such as family and work, so arriving a bit late/leaving a bit early, or stepping out for a few hours, is ok. If you can't make the entire weekend, but want a taste of the jam, consider getting involved as a volunteer!, email us atnycservicedesignjam@gmail.comwith Volunteer in the subject line.

You don't have to be a Designer to jam. Service design and design thinking are processes and tools that anyone can use for innovative and creative approaches to problem solving, regardless of job title or skill level. Here are a few reasons past attendees signed up:
