This is a full course in only 5 hours on the business of VR, immersive design, and the ins and outs of this emerging production specialty. Instructors will give you an overview of the business models and distribution opportunities for this exciting new platform.

Learn how to create Virtual Reality projects from conception to distribution, a full course in immersive design, the business of VR and the ins and outs of this emerging production specialty. Instructors with experience creating liveaction and computer generated 360 degree experiences will take you through the pre, production and post process for VR and give you an overview of the business models and distribution opportunities for this exciting new platform.

Students will leave understanding:

The production process for live action and computer generated VR filmmaking

The strategies, business concepts, and models for creating a successful VR production.

The differences between traditional filmmaking and VR filmmaking

The players, hardware, software and distribution channels in the VR marketplace

Caitlin Burns

Chief Operations Officer & CoFounder

Caitlin Burns has spent a decade working with narrative intellectual property franchises, independent artists, brands and philanthropic initiatives. Her past work includes: Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney Fairies, and Tron Legacy for The Walt Disney Company, James Camerons Avatar for Fox, Halo for Microsoft, The Happiness Factory for The CocaCola Company, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Nickelodeon, Transformers for Hasbro and UNICEF Kid Power. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Producers Guild of Americas New Media Council Board of Delegates.

Debra Anderson

Chief Strategy Officer & Founder

Debra Anderson is a Producer/Director specialized in digital storytelling and media impact. She builds datadriven, researched based approaches to immersive experiences. Debra founded the innovation consultancy Culture Shock in 2007; presented groundbreaking interactive works with NFB at Sundance New Frontier (2012), Tribeca Storyscapes (201315) and curated arts/tech projects at Volta Art Fair NY & Switzerland (201014). Debra designed and instructs the first Big Data: Consumer Research undergraduate survey course at The New School for Public Engagement.

Hugh McGrory

Chief Executive Officer & Founder

Hugh McGrory brings expertise in film production, imaging and technology to the world of immersive media. He was a Partner at Culture Shock, consulting for clients including Vimeo and The National Film Board of Canada, and played a pivotal role in the Andy Warhol Film Digitization project. Previously, Hugh cofounded the Belfastbased film and animation studio Make.ie, was a Teaching Fellow at the Queens University of Belfast (Film Studies), Executive Producer for NI Screen/UK Film Council Digital Shorts, and completed a Nanoimaging Residency with the CINEMA Microscopy Lab at Yale University.

Brian Chirls

Chief Technology Officer & Cofounder

Brian Chirls is a recognized innovator in the independent film world. He was recently the Digital Technology Fellow at POV, a position funded by the Knight Foundation. He has developed innovative models for interaction, data visualization and contentauthoring in virtual reality. Brian has helped to create a new genre of interactive video pieces and software libraries that demonstrate ways to combine the interactivity and connectivity of the web with the aesthetic power of cinema and his work has been presented at CPH:DOX, IDFA DocLab, SXSW and Tribeca Film Institute.
