Presenter: Katya N. Vasilaky, PhD.
Bio: Katya Vasilaky is a postdoctoral research fellow at Columbia University's Earth Institute working in both economics and bayesian statistics. She has been working with data and statistics for the last ten years, primarily in developing countries from East Africa to India to Asia for the last 10 years. She was also the VP of Research for a tech startup, ID.me, in Washington DC.
Overview: This workshop will be a brief intro to using R for data analysis for the beginner. Some familiarity with data and statistics will be helpful. This will not be a comprehensive introduction to R. Rather, it will be a short introduction to using R for simple analysis. We'll use a sample dataset to munge and manipulate into a format for running statistics and graphs. In that process we'll cover some common R functions that an analyst would most commonly use:subset, rep, split, dates, plyr package, merges/joins, csv, if/else statement, and a for/while loop.
$5 is collected for dinner and to cover costs.
