School's back in! Join us at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 for a discussion about teaching data and journalism. We'll talk with instructors Aram Chung(Columbia University), Richard Dunks(Datapolitan, Pratt Institute), Aurelia Moser(CartoDB, The New School), Lam Thuy Vo(Al Jazeera America, CUNY)andSisi Wei (ProPublica, NYU)about the things they've learned as practitioners who teach, including pitfalls and happy surprises.

Schedule:

6:30 p.m.:Doors, dinner + socializing

7 p.m.: Panel discussion withAram Chung,Richard Dunks,Aurelia Moser,Lam Thuy Vo and Sisi Wei.

~8:15 p.m.:Hiring announcements, networking and socializing

About our panelists:

Aram Chungisa 2014-2015 Brown Institute Fellow. Shegraduated from Columbia Journalism Schooland the Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Richard Dunksis a recent graduate of the urban data science program at NYU and an adjunct instructor in the Lede Program at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Richard is the founder of Datapolitan, a company working with local government agencies and non-profits to build capacity with data analytics and open-source technology.

Aurelia Moser is a curious cartographer in Brooklyn New York, building data visualizations and curriculum forCartoDBandGirl Develop ItNYC. She teaches part-time at Parsons' Journalism+Design Program in a course calledWeb Coding for Interactive Design.

Lam Thuy Vois a multiplatform storyteller and interdisciplinary journalist. Shes an interactive editor for Al Jazeera America, where she leads a team of coder-journalists and covers poverty-related stories. She also teaches data journalism and coding skills at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism's Interactive and Social Journalism departments.

Sisi Weiis a developer and journalist at ProPublica, and she's also taught at CUNY, the New School and NYU's Studio 20 program. Sisi spends most of her down time thinking about and playing games.
