**4-Day Evening Course: Monday, November 27- Thursday, November 30
6 PM - 9 PM
This is an intensive course that covers similar subjects to the Biotech Crash Course, but in an accelerated format. You'll be in the lab at the bench for most of it. We'll extract our own DNA, analyze ancestry through bioinformatics, splice genes into bacteria, & learn all the standard techniques such as using pipettors, gel electrophoresis, amplifying DNA with PCR reactions, working with restriction enzymes to build plasmids, & growing & transforming bacteria.
As an added bonus, we'll learn how to make DIY lab equipment such as incubators & centrifuges-this is not covered in the regular Biotech Crash Course.
Dr. Mike Flanagan has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Caltech & has spent more than two decades working at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Bell Labs, & entrepreneurial companies (including Arieso where he was CTO, & FlanaGen where he is Founder & CEO). Dr. Flanagan's current Synthetic Biology projects include those relating to biomaterials, optogenetic control systems, bacterial photography & iGEM.
