While the world at large has enthusiastically embraced crowdfunding, there are still many countries that are just now beginning to dip into the crowdfunding waters. In Venezuela, crowdfunding or "collective funding" (as it's called in Spanish), is relatively new with only a couple of platforms building minor traction such as Patrocinarte.net and and Daryrecibir.org.ve. And Latin American crowdfunding company Idea.Me (the most successful Latin American crowdfunding platform to date with a presence in over five countries) is planning to expand to Venezuela in 2015).

With the exception of Idea.Me, these platforms are relatively small compared to the global dominance of Kickstarter and Indiegogo, but their presence signals a seismic shift in how Venezuelans fund the arts and businesses -- and filmmakers could be leading the charge. To underscore this, several of the films featured in this year's film program were funded through crowdfunding campaigns including Javier Andrade's La Casa del Ritmo: A Film About Los Amigos Invisibles which was produced after he successfully raised $30,000 on Kickstarter.

Can Venezuela have a thriving, competitive crowdfunding market? What are the various types of crowdfunding models in Venezuela? What are some of the hurdles (legal, cultural, financial, etc.), that Venezuela needs to overcome in order to fully embrace and be successful at crowdfunding in their own way? How will all of this affect the rapidly-changing Venezuelan indie film industry? How are films currently funded in Venezuela? Should Venezuelan filmmakers crowdfund through Venezuelan platforms or global platforms like Kickstarter?

Join us for the unique, compelling conversation with filmmakers and crowdfunding experts on the birth and evoultion of crowdfunding filmmaking in Venezuela (something that, just a few years ago, would've been inconceivable). After the panel, join us for drinks and mingling at Walkers.
