Prometheus: next generation monitoring (in Go)
Note: WE ARE MEETING AT CIVIC HALL!! We'll need names, and you will need IDs. RSVP will open Wednesday July 6th, 2016, 4:30pm.
This talk will give a high-level overview of modern monitoringapproaches and explain why and how monitoring should be used. Next itwill highlight Prometheus' features, use cases, design and differencesto other monitoring systems as well as provide some backgroundinformation on why it was written at SoundCloud. In the main partTobias will show how Prometheus can be used to monitor Linux servers,applications and network infrastructure. Many examples will beprovided and the talk will finish with an outlook on how the collectedmetrics and information can be used in visualizations and automaticalerts.
There will be plenty of time for questions!

Tobias Schmidt has been a Production Engineer at SoundCloud for thelast five years and is an active contributor to the Prometheusmonitoring project. He is the maintainer of SoundCloud's internalcontainer management system and currently working on the transition ofSoundCloud's infrastructure onto Kubernetes.
