This month we are featuring two great Brooklyn-based companies, and their latest mobile app innovations. One of which revolves around the world of 3D Printing, while the other focuses on building Digital Toys(educational apps) for kids.

Andrew Askedall, UI/UX Designer, MakerBot

Andrew Askedall is a UI/UX designer with an eclectic background in advertising, start-ups and the post production world. He is currently helping shape the next industrial revolution at MakerBot by crafting powerful interfaces that are simple to use. His projects have been featured on the iTunes App Store such as Krop Circle as well as earning an Emmy and several other digital awards.

Manny Tan, UX Designer / Developer, MakerBot

Manny Tan is a UX designer and software developer working in the tech industry for over 15 years. Hepromotes and practices design systems thinking and rapid prototyping, workingon products such as the Microsoft Courier project and Bing Search. Currently he works at MakerBot with a focus on creating consumer products like MakerBot PrintShop.

Manny is also an accomplished digital artist using algorithms to explore kinetic forms. His work can best be understood atuncontrol.com, a space where he experiments with art, information and nature using computer vision. His work has been featured at the Art Director Club, OFFF, Deitch Gallery, and the Cooper Union.

Robert Blackwood, Senior iOS Engineer, Tinybop

Robert Blackwood is a Senior iOS Engineer at Tinybop. He develops physics-based interactions and autonomous systems to create rich iOS apps. Robert has a BS in Computer Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology, with a focus in artificial intelligence and simulation modeling. Previously, he was a lead engineer at isee systems, where he developed dynamic systems modeling software used worldwide. In 2009, Robert founded his own mobile apps company, producing several successful iOS titles.

Tinybop is a Brooklyn-based studio of designers, engineers, and artists building elegant, educational iOS apps for kids around the globe. Tinybop champions curiosity, tinkering, and good plain fun.
