What's In a Name? Well, Actually, Everything: Designers Simon James Spurr, Matthew Orley & Chris Gelinas Talk About the Risks & Rewards of Calling a Brand by Their Name. Douglas Hand will serve as the panel moderator.

Simon Spurr was born in Kent, England in 1974. He studied in London & graduated from Middlesex University in 1996 with a B.A. in Mens Fashion Design. Soon after graduating, Spurr was hired to design menswear for Saint Laurent, working under the close guidance of Hedi Slimane. In 2001, Spurr was recruited to New York City to serve as head Menswear Designer for cK Calvin Klein & in 2003 he became Design Director for Ralph Lauren Purple Label & Ralph Lauren Black Label.

In the Fall of 2006, Spurr launched his eponymous menswear line, SPURR, with three distinct styles of American-made selvage jeans. Over the course of 2007, the line was expanded to include sportswear, suiting & accessories, quickly establishing SPURR as a full lifestyle brand. In 2009, the brand was broadened once again with the creation & development of SIMON SPURR, a designer collection which paralleled & complemented the newly-contemporized SPURR. SIMON SPURR & SPURR were sold at leading retailers worldwide, including Bergdorf Goodman, Jeffrey New York, Saks Fifth Avenue, Maxfield, Bloomingdales, Scoop & Nordstrom.

Matthew Orley is an entrepreneur, advisor, & angel investor with a focus on the fashion & luxury goods industry. In 2012, he co-founded his namesake brand, Orley. The business launched with a focus on fine knitwear, expanding to a full collection of mens ready-to-wear in 2014. The brand has become internationally recognised for its combination of classic yet youthful design with a commitment to the highest quality materials & manufacturing. The collection is available through orley.us, as well as at high-end retailers including Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, & Opening Ceremony.

Chris Gelinas is a New York based womenswear designer.Gelinas challenges conventional approaches to design through a commitment to rigorous technical development & innovation, working to bridge the gap between pioneering techniques & the classic convention of luxury & femininity. Gelinas has been quickly recognized for his innovative approach & attention to detail, being shortlisted as a finalist in the first LVMH Young Fashion Designers prize & his debut CG collection won the MADE for Peroni Young Designer Award in 2013.
