Hello NY DataViz Community! Is it Spring enough for you yet? Is life not just positively bursting from the cracks in the sidewalks?!???

Not just on pedestrian paths, but HERE TOO, we are simply AWASH in opportunity and energy. Which is why we bring you a special BONUS EVENT for the month of April, courtesy of our event partner About.com, and special visiting speaker Robert Kosara, who brings a wealth of his own energy with him from a career as a consultant, professor, writer, and research scientist. Don't miss either of these April events! Take some long walks in the fine weather so that you aren't tempted to skip! And change your RSVP early if you are indeed so fickle...

Robert Kosara explains what he'll present:

"While we have a vast array of tools for analyzing data, the presentation of issues and support for decisions based on that data is still in its infancy. Recently, there has been a lot of interest in storytelling about data, in particular because of the successful use of data in news media. I will discuss what makes these work so well, and then look at how we can go from analysis to presentation, and on to building exploratory tools for the audience once they have seen the story."

Robert Kosara is a research scientist at Tableau Software, where he is exploring the use of visualization for the communication of, and storytelling with, data. He is a recovering academic (former Associate Professor at UNC Charlotte) who has published on a variety of visualization topics, including basic perception, new visualization techniques, and the theory of visualization. Robert runs the popular visualization blogeagereyes.organd isactive on Twitter.

About the Event

As usual, we'll start refreshments at 6:30pm with time to network, catch up and meet new people with interests in data visualization. The formal presentations will begin around 7:00pm and there will be time for Q&A afterwards. So please join us for these excellent presentations, the best DataViz networking in New York, and some light refreshments.

Please note: only those with confirmed RSVP's will be able to attend, because of security requirements at the space that generously hosts & sponsors us. Reservations will close at 4:00pm the day of the event. If you aren't able to get a slot by then, we apologize, but you won't be able to enter the building. For this reason, we've expanded the number of RSVP's we accept, to account for no-shows and to make sure we fill as many of our seats as possible. But, please cancel as early as possible to make room for other attendees. Thanks for understanding, and see you there!

-Christian & Paul
