About This Class

This class is an introduction to computer programming. It will be taught using Ruby, a modern object-oriented programming language that is hailed for being simple, yet powerful.



Through lecture, discussion & a live coding demo, this class will give you a solid foundation to start programming for fun or for use in your career.




Prereqs & Preparation

None. Ideal for anyone who enjoys working with computers but doesnt have programming experience.

Melody Serra is originally from Los Angeles & loves being an older sister - her youngest sister is 18 years younger than her! Melody was a high school teacher in both East Los Angeles & San Francisco. As a teacher she realized the power of technology & how it could be used as a creative outlet, so she decided to pursue web development. Melody has experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js. Ruby on Rails, & AngularJS.



Melody's passion is teaching & empowering others by sharing what she has learned. She started a JavaScript class at the Boys & Girls Club of Visitacion Valley & also teaches at San Quentin State Prison. Melody hopes to inspire youth to explore & expand their creativity through web development.
