What you Need to Know to Build and Maintain your Team

Fee: Free for NYTECH members and sponsors. $20.00 for non-members.

Join the New York Technology Council for session 2 of our popular series Legal Essentials for Startups, a four-part program designed to provide principals of early-stage companies with a grounding in fundamental legal issues that can critically affect their likelihood of success. Each program will be delivered by a panel of attorneys drawn from large, mid-size and small law firms, all with extensive experience in both the subject matter of the series and the operations and concerns of startups and emerging growth companies. The goal of the series is to provide attendees with the tools necessary to spot significant legal issues and avoid some of the most common legal pitfalls that can create problems down the road, and to assist them in establishing solid foundations for their entrepreneurial ventures. These interactive sessions will have ample opportunity for Q&A and will be equally valuable for principals of existing companies and for entrepreneurs intending to start companies.

Session #2 - Staffing Smart: What you Need to Know to Build and Maintain your Team

In this session, we will focus on personnel issues facing start-up entities such as:
Employment agreements, including offer letters, intellectual property/work for hire agreements, and restrictive covenant agreements

Immigration issues, including temporary visa and Green Card sponsorship
Employee classification issues (employee/independent contractor and exempt/nonexempt)
Considerations for selection of members of boards of directors and advisory boards
Compensation issues, including equity and option grants, and vesting provisions
Doors open at 6:00PM for networking, program starts at 6:30PM. Light food and beverage will be served.
