TOPIC DESCRIPTION

While you can pay a lot of attention to optimizing your back-end code, tuning servers and databases, the majority of the delay perceived by users has to do with what happens in the browser. This includes time taken establishing network connections, loading additional assets, executing scripts, parsing stylesheets, etc. In this talk, Rafa and Brandon will go over a number of techniques you can apply to optimize your front-end performance, which directly impacts your users' experience.

SPEAKER BIOS

Rafael Petry is a Lead Software Engineer at ThoughtWorks New York. For over seven years, he has worked on a variety of web projects, helping clients improve scalability and adopt best practices such as continuous delivery. Most recently, he has led a website re-architecture effort for a news media organization, where both front-end and back-end performance were key.

Brandon Cook is a Senior Developer at ThoughtWorks. For the past 4 years at ThoughtWorks he has worked on a variety of clients across different domains and technologies. He is passionate about software excellence and the pursuit of developer happiness.
