Lightning Talks
We have some lightning talks lined up for this week! If you want to talk about something you learned recently or are working on, e-mail me (michael@aqua.io)... or just come and chime up at the beginning of the meetup.
Brandon Arbiter is going to talk about his recent adventures with diabetes data. From Brandon:
The mHealth paradigm is transforming the way we treat chronic diseases. A person with Type 1 Diabetes carries up to three devices and collect 250,00 data points in a year. Despite this surplus of data, according to a recent survey by MyGlu, 96.4% of diabetics determine their dosage amounts on the fly by "guesstimating most of the time..." or "guesstimating all of the time."
Inspired by the cultures of quantified self and data driven decision making, the team at Patient Applications is passionately building the first mobile app that ties device to cloud, turning unutilized data into actionable information and removing the guess work from diabetes.
Tom Black will be giving an update on the new Blue Button initiatives. Also, Tom recently made some significant updates to the awesome BlueButton.js project, which is available for your forking pleasure on github at: https://github.com/blue-button/bluebutton.js
Last, let me take you for a short trip on the HIPAA omnibus! Im planning to give a rambling account of the recently released final HIPAA rule, based on what Ive read about it online and from searching certain terms (covered entity, de-identified, reasonable cause, all your base) in the document itself. Ill have the pdf on my laptop at the meetup, in case anybody wants to search/discuss something specific, but you can also download it in its full 563 page glory here: http://www.ofr.gov/OFRUpload/OFRData/2013-01073_PI.pdf
About Health Hacker Hours
Health Hacker Hours is a casual opportunity for programmers working in health to come, talk shop, get code help, or just hack in the presence of other health hackers. We shamelessly ripped off the idea from the awesome folks at NYC on Rails.
Come to Health Hacker Hours if you...
- Want some help with code you've been working on.
- Would like to get feedback on or share a health hack that you are coding yourself.
- Hope to discuss unique health hacking problems (like HIPAA compliance or interoperability) or standards (HL7, Blue Button, etc.) with others who have already suffered through them.
