Short Bios of Panel Speakers:

Gene Slowinski is the Director of Strategic Alliance and Open Innovation Research at the Graduate School of Management, Rutgers University and Managing Partner of the Alliance Management Group, a consulting firm devoted to the formation and management of strategic alliances. His clients include Unilever, John Deere, Hersheys, P&G, GSK, Kraft, Battelle, Energizer, PepsiCo, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sherwin Williams and many other firms. Prior to forming the Alliance Management Group, he held management positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories, and Novartis Corporation. In addition to a Ph.D. in Management, Gene holds an MBA, and a Masters Degree in the sciences.

Heath Ahrens is the creator of DriveSafe.ly, an award winning mobile app with 35 million downloads. It was named Mashables Best Mobile App of 2010 and won the CES Mobile App Showdown in 2011. Ahrens debuted Talkz, a mobile messaging app using Voice Cloning technology and Speech Recognition at TechCrunch Disrupt in 2013. He is also the Founder and CEO of iSpeech, a text-to-speech (TTS) and speech recognition (ASR) provider with over 35k registered developers, including are Pearson, Evernote and iTranslate. Ahrens was named to NJBIZs 40 under 40 and has presented speech technology and distracted driving at SpeechTEK, Mobile Voice Conference, CTIA and TEDx.


Judith A. Sheft is the Associate Vice President Technology Development at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. She is responsible for managing the universitys Office of Technology Development and creates programs and policies focusing on patent creation, intellectual property valuation, strategic use and protection of IP assets. She is also involved with economic development in the Newark Innovation Zone having responsibilities for management of the universitys high technology business accelerator/incubator, the Enterprise Development Center, and the Procurement Technical Assistance Center. She is on the Board of Advisors to the NJIT School of Management and the NJIT Albert Dorman Honors College Interdisciplinary Design Studio program. Since 2007 she has been a member of the NJ Israel Commission. Prior to joining NJIT, she had been a founding member of Licenz Group, an IP consulting firm that focuses on assisting companies to maximize the value of their IP portfolio. Before that she had worked as the Intellectual Property and Compliance Vice President for Agere Systems, the semiconductor subsidiary of Lucent Technologies. In that capacity she had profit and loss responsibility for Ageres patent and technology licensing business.

Nancy Schneier is a Financial Services Executive, Business Development, who works with financial institutions and software vendors to deliver business solutions by leveraging strategic partnerships. She has expertise in launching solutions with a focus on data management, analytics and process automation. Nancy offers a unique perspective having worked with and for a diverse group of organizations from early stage companies such as Kurtosys to publicly traded companies such as Broadridge. Nancy has managed partnerships with large institutions including IBM and SAP. In addition, Nancy is a Senior Advisor to Health Options Worldwide, platform provider that manages healthcare costs. Nancy has a BS in Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.


Short Bio Moderator:

Lyria Charles is an executive coach who is passionate about helping IT professionals prepare for broader leadership roles. As a former senior leader in IT, Lyria was troubled by the broad impression that IT people lack the necessary business and communication skills to be effective in their jobs. Her mission and passion is to turn IT leaders into highly-effective business leaders. Prior to starting her coaching practice, Lyria held senior IT leadership roles at Chubb Insurance, America Online (AOL), and Iron Mountain. Her keen awareness of the communication and relationship building challenges within IT led to her leader as coach style of management; resulting in customer-centric and business savvy IT leaders. She brings this same passion to her coaching practice where she works with IT leaders to develop their soft skills, build their business acumen, and help them reach their full potential as well-rounded and effective IT leaders.
