In independent filmmaking, the relationship between a producer & director is one of the key factors in the life of a film.

"What does a producer do?" It's a question every producer will need to answer many times throughout their lives. And you can't blame folks for asking.

Producing is probably the least understood role in the film industry. It connotes several different contributions to a film - script development, packaging, investing, overseeing physical production, post production, sales, etc. In independent filmmaking, the relationship between a producer & director is one of the key factors in the life of a film.

For filmmakers just starting out, it's important to understand what they can & should expect from a producer, the different types of producers they will encounter during their career, & how they can get the most out of this key creative bond.

What You Will Learn
Development - The process of getting the script camera-ready, & of building the team to make the movie.
Financing - The process of financing a film, what can be expected from a creative producer during this process.
Physical Production - We'll take a look at the production team that manages the shoot, & what a creative producer's role is in the day-to-day life of the film set.
Post Production - One of the most elusive & mysterious stages in the life of a film. What should a filmmaker expect from a producer during this stage? We'll discuss the notes process, feedback screenings, & a producer's contribution during this important stage.
Festival, Sale, & Release - A producer's job does not stop at picture lock. We'll look at the producer's involvement in festival strategy, sales, & ultimately to the release of the film & its life once released.
