Description
Social Innovation Demo Night
Hosted by Alexis Ohanian
May 30th from 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Complimentary beer and wine will be served.

Brought to you by General Assembly and TechiesGiveBack, the Social Innovation Demo Night highlights companies that are using technology to make an impact on everything from politics to charity. A handful of companies will demo their products to showcase how they have integrated tech to make a positive change. Demos will be followed by Q&A to allow the audience to ask questions and give feedback about the products and initiatives.

Alexis Ohanian is the co-founder of reddit, which was acquired by Conde Nast in 2006. He is currently the founder of breadpig, an angel investor with Das Kapital Capital, the East Coast Ambassador for venture fund Y Combinator, and a former Kiva Fellow.

Alexis is also an advisor to the travel search website hipmunk which he helped launch in 2010, and is working on a book titled "Without Your Permission," set to debut in early 2013.

Demo 1: Amicus
Description: Amicus empowers cause-driven organizations to leverage the social networks of their supporters, raise more money, attract more members, and win more votes.

Speaker: Seth Bannon, Founder/CEO
Bio: Since the age of 12, Seth has been volunteering for or working on non-profit causes and political campaigns. Over the years he has consistently felt that causes he cared about were being held back by inadequate technology. To solve this problem, he founded Amicus, a social fundraising and outreach platform for non-profits, political campaigns, and educational institutions. Amicus' mission is to create the technology that empowers people to organize around the causes they care about. When not attempting to reshape civil society through innovation, you can find Seth hustling the chess hustlers in Union Square Park.

Demo 2: Catchafire
Description: Catchafire matches professionals who want to give their skills with nonprofits and social enterprises that need their help. We match professionals and organizations based on a variety of characteristics including skills, cause interests, and time availability.

Speaker: Chris Maguire, Product Engineer
Chris Maguire is a broadly skilled engineer and designer with a knack for doing whatever it takes to get the job done. A strong believer in technology’s ability to improve people’s lives, he’s dedicated his career to building tools that help others help themselves. In 2005 he co-founded Etsy.com, a handmade marketplace that has since grown into a worldwide community of millions. In 2009 he co-founded Postling, a social media simplifier for small businesses used by tens of thousands of small businesses. At Catchafire, he’s thrilled to be working towards building an unparalleled user experience for both nonprofits and volunteers. Chris loves ice cream, aquariums, and climbing on things. He very rarely maintains a webcomic and blog at Hypercombofinish.com.

Demo 3: CauseCart
CauseCart is a web browser extension that allows users to raise money for their chosen charity/cause without donating their own time or money. It will have its Alpha launch in June.

Speaker: Michael Geer,
Michael Geer cut his teeth with Badoo over in Moscow and London. During his 5 years there he helped bring Badoo from less than an idea to a global 70 million member network. He left Badoo in July 2010 and is now a Techstars mentor, a Board Advisor to several startups, teaches popular SkillShare classes on user acquisition and co-leads the Social Good For-Profit meetup in NYC. MG has recently started a new venture as Founder of CauseCart. You can follow MG on Twitter: @geeria
