NewsPicks: Expansion to US & Joint Venture with Dow Jones
This is our 22nd event, & we're thrilled to introduce NewsPicks from Japan!
NewsPicks was founded as part of Uzabase in Japan in 2013 & will be launching in the United States as a joint venture (NewsPicks USA) between Uzabase & Dow Jones & Co in Fall, 2017.
NewsPicks is a news app which you can read news with comments from experts. Our app is a social content aggregation play, providing its community members with the opportunity to follow high-profile, journalists, business people, entrepreneurs, intellectuals, authors, & government leaders as "Pro Pickers" to curate their personalized news & analysis. Comments on "picked" articles fuel dialogue around the most important topics of the day.
This is a fantastic opportunity for cross-cultural learning with entrepreneurs in our greater community. Prior to joining NewsPicks USA in 2017, Shinsuke Oyamaleadbusiness development & product development at Uzabase for 3 years. Shinsuke started his career at Corporate Directions & planned & implemented strategies for enterprise growth & new business, as well as for the Chinese business at CDI-China following its venturing intosaidmarket in 2011.

Chief Community Officer at NewsPicks USA
As Chief Community Officer for NewsPicks, USA, RoryOConnormanages the growing publisher & Pro-Picker ecosystem on the revolutionary news platform as it expands in the United States.
Prior to NewsPicks, Rory led sales for MarketWatch, the pioneering financial news & data site within Dow Jones Media Group, where he was responsible for managing revenue for the site across the globe.
Before he joined Dow Jones, Rory held positions in Sales at Yahoo across a number of industry categories including Finance, Automotive, Travel, & Retail. He began his career as Media Director of dotcom-era agency Beyond Interactive, which was acquired by Grey Global Group.He graduated from the University of Michigan.
