The Many Roads to Product Development

There are many paths to a career in product development. This event will feature a panelists of five leading product designers & managers who will share their varying insight on the roads they explored, what they do & how they stay ahead of the curve.

Our Guest Panelists Include:

Erin Essex, Strategy Specialist & Creative Director at Webonise

With some 10+ years in the product world, Erin has seen the good, the bad, & the ugly. Through all of the ups & downs Erin has pulled out some unique approaches to both building products & managing teams & clients. She has developed several tips on the art of creatively saying no as well as some new approaches to the way we plan & develop products.

Erins journey into product began as a designer & then quickly grew to a creative director & strategy role in a few medium size agencies. Shes been responsible for the design team, overall strategy, & roll out of hundreds of sites & applications over the years & would love to share some of those stories with you.

Oh, & shes also super into Beer if you want to talk about that too!

Modupe Akinawonu,Mobile Product Manager at The New York Times

Modupe Akinnawonu is a Product Manager at The New York Times. While she mainly focuses on overseeing the development of the Android app, she also works on smaller cross-platform projects & keeps the Times apps on some more minor mobile platforms running. Prior to moving into product, Modupe worked as a liaison between the customer care group at The Times & the teams building the mobile apps. She graduated from NYU with degrees in Economics & History.

Randi Eichenbaum,Director of Product at Cond Nast

Randi Eichenbaum has worked in digital media for the last 10 years, focusing on creating new & innovative experiences in the media space. As a Director of Product for Conde Nast, she oversees product strategy for several of the companys premiere brands, including Allure, Architectural Digest, Brides, Golf Digest, SELF, Teen Vogue, & W.

Previously, she was the Senior Product Manager for Allure, where she oversaw the brands online re-launch in 2016, as well as launched new, revenue-generating products, crucial to the brands success, including e-commerce integration & a product sampling program.

Before coming to Conde Nast, she was a product manager at New York Magazine, where she was a vital player in leading the re-launch of the Cut, the media companys online fashion & beauty vertical, & oversaw the growth of its audience by 400%.

She is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a BA in Journalism, & currently lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband.

Soumya Shukla, Director of New Business at Voyager Labs

With 8 years of experience across product management, management consulting & two successful tech-startups, Soumya has always been at the forefront of emerging technologies. In her current position, she is managing a cognitive computing platforms retail solution in North America. She is a proponent of customer-centric product development & believes in the power of data for better decision making. Her areas of interest are digital marketing, performance marketing & decision science.

Soumya has an engineering degree & MBA from schools in India & a second masters from MIT. She lives in New York & enjoys jazz, food-trucks & flea markets.

Sophia Somin Yoo, Associate Product Manager at Architizer

Sophia works closely with Architizer's engineering team to manage sprints & launches in addition to running user tests & assisting with roadmapping. Her favorite things about product development: getting ideas to become realities, understanding & leveraging what gets people excited, digging into nitty-gritty details, keeping technical debt at bay, & facing the challenge of building a useful product that people will love.

Sophia's own road to product management is unconventional. After graduating with an art history degree from Yale University, she worked for a year as a paralegal at a corporate law firm before starting at Architizer in media sales. Sophia was about to head to grad school for a Masters in Architecture when she stumbled into the Product & Engineering Team. She decided to stay. It was the best decision ever.
