Description

iOS applications are increasingly sophisticated and data driven. In addition, between the iPhone, iPad, and now the iPad mini, users are more and more likely to be running your app on multiple devices. Enter Core Data, the standard for data persistence in iOS, and iCloud, which allows apps to sync data between devices. The combination of the two technologies has incredible potential, but can be tricky to implement. Kevin Kim, author of More iOS 6 Development: Further Explorations of the iOS SDK on Apress, will present key concepts and techniques for writing larger Core Data-based applications, and the finer points of using iCloud with Core Data. We're hosted this month by Hearst, thanks to Guy and Dmitriy from the mobile team. After the presentation, Hearst is serving food and drinks (sandwiches, veggies, cookies, beer, wine, soft drinks, etc.), so definitely plan to stick around afterwards for that. About the presenter: Kevin Kim (@kykim) is a founder and partner of AppOrchard LLC, a Tipping Point Partners company focused on sustainable iOS development. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, he was first exposed to the NeXTStep computer (the ancestor of today's iPhone) while a programmer at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center and has been hooked ever since. His career has spanned finance, government, biotech and technology, include Apple where he managed the Apple Enterprise Services team for the New York metro area. He resides in the Alphabet City section of New York City with his wife and a clowder of rescued cats. Kevin's new book, More iOS 6 Development: Further Explorations of the iOS SDK, digs deeper into Apples latest iOS 6 SDK. Bestselling authors Dave Mark, Alex Horovitz, Kevin Kim and Jeff LaMarche explain concepts as only they cancovering topics like Core Data, peer-to-peer networking using GameKit and network streams, working with data from the web, MapKit, in-application e-mail, and more. All the concepts and APIs are clearly presented with code snippets you can customize and use, as you like, in your own apps. The alpha e-book is available now, and the print version is available for pre-order and will be released in December.
