Dan Gillespie, CoreOS
Bio:
Dan Gillespie is a senior software engineer atCoreOS, working on enterprise Kubernetes features in Tectonic. Dan joinedCoreOSwhen it acquired Redspread, the company he co-founded to develop open source Kubernetes collaboration tools. Prior to his work on Redspread he founded Bitcamp, a hackathon that values participant experience & mentorship over competitiveness & points.
Abstract:
There are many options for managing the underlying infrastructure of a Kubernetes cluster. This talk will cover how to use Hashicorp Terraform & other tools to manage a Kubernetes cluster. This talk will help to answer the following questions: What are the best ways to architect Kubernetes clusters & how do the tools in Terraform help? What tools are flexible & expressive enough to fit into my existing non-Kubernetes infrastructure? And where do tools like bootkube & kubeadm fit into all of this?

Christian Nuss & Mathew Hornbeek, Collective Health
Abstract:
Mathew & Christian will discuss how Collective Health manages its infrastructure with Terraform, Ansible, & Jenkins. While AWS provides many of the primitives to manage infrastructure, managing many hosts completely as code is a pain. Leveraging infrastructure as code, configuration management using Ansible, & a continuous deployment pipeline, Collective Health has managed to centralize management of a complex environment while giving developers more flexibility & control.
Bios:
Christian has been a DevOps/Reliability Engineer at Collective Health for the past 2 years. In that time he's helped setup & maintain the monitoring, logging, database, & application infrastructure in the public AWS cloud under strict HIPAA compliance regulations, as well as helped the engineering teams develop & deliver their products in a secure, reliable, & repeatable fashion.
