This class will provide an overview of artists’ rights and responsibilities with regard to their use of the internet and social media. Topics will include: intellectual property concerns, rights to publicity and privacy, and commonly encountered online licenses (in particular, Creative Commons licenses and licenses to content on social media websites). The class will also discuss legal issues that artists frequently encounter when using a website to promote their work.
