7pm: Chris Paro presents -Gaining Visibility into Event-Driven Systems with Perspective

Perspective is a tool developed and used at DigitalOcean to present event datain ways that make it easy for a human user to detect patterns (and deviationsfrom these patterns) as a complement to traditional reporting dashboards andautomated monitoring systems.

Here we'll show how Perspective is used at DigitalOcean for real-timeobservation and how it can be used to explore historical patterns, and discusshow it could be employed to gain insight into other systems and applications.

We'd also like to open the floor for sharing ideas on other approaches to makingit easier for people to see, hear, or otherwise observe system health andbehavior.

In this presentation well look at an inexpensive, self-standing WiFi module which has been rapidly gaining popularity in recent months. Well start with a base module, and an overview of its capabilities, then explore some of its potential applications together, live.

Bio: Thor builds clouds as an Engineer at DigitalOcean. He enjoys enabling folks to build things that blink, click, rumble, and walk as a founder of Squidwrench and to show off the things theyve built by helping to run a Mini-Maker Faire and generally encouraging people.
