<P CLASS="gmail_extra">The arrival of over a million refugees in Germany in 2015-16 catalyzed a uniquely dynamic wave of civic tech engagement. Over 100 projects were launched, aiming to respond to the challenges around receiving & integrating the newcomers. Researchers at <STRONG>betterplace lab in Berlin</STRONG> have carried out a<STRONG><A HREF="http://www.betterplace-lab.org/en/digital-routes-to-integration/" TARGET="_blank" REL="noopener noreferrer noopener nofollow noopener noreferrer nofollow nofollow noreferrer nofollow">comprehensive review</A></STRONG>of how this mobilisation played out. This report is a product of their research, comprising 78 interviews with digital projects, refugees & volunteers.</P>
<P CLASS="gmail_extra">Looking back on the last two years we can ask: What role can tech play in refugee integration? What different sub-species are there of civic tech innovations, & which is most effective? How can large-scale civic activation around an emotive issue be effectively harnessed & steered?</P>

<P><STRONG>Ben Mason</STRONG> leads betterplace lab's work on digital technology in the area of refugees & migration, & was primary author of the 2016 report "ICT4Refugees".
