Enterprise tools are hard. Especially when they need to support thousands of people; publishing thousands of articles and photo galleries every day that are seen by millions of viewers; on thousands of radio station websites across the US. Even harder? The platform all this runs on is old and dying, and replacing it involves building a modern yet equivalent system, and then launching that system without the people using it missing a beat.

Performing this Kobayashi Maru is our speaker, Trey Long, who joined iHeartRadio already having a wealth of experience in CMS and high volume consumer sites. Join us on January 28th at 6:30pm in the iHeartRadio Theater, enjoy some [food] and [beer], and hear about Trey's journey and his chosen path: a tools platform built on a homegrown PaaS (Platform As A Service) using a standard, modern technology stack (think Python, Angular.JS, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Docker) comparable to similar offerings from AWS or Heroku. If you are interested in building platforms, or just love hearing about tech battle scars, this talk is for you. Hope to see you there!

About the speaker

Trey Long, Mgr. of Software Engineering/Platform Architect, Platforms

Trey Long is sliding in on fifteen years of experience in software and programming related technologies. Most of that time has been spent hanging out on the web. Back when server programming was vastly different than client programming, he would have been considered a server-side guy. Over the years, he has mostly been tasked with building scalable and efficient CMS platforms. A major stopping point before iHeartRadio, was Aol, where he spent time coming to terms with what people really want in an enterprise grade publishing platform. Now that experience is being applied at iHeart in a slightly different light. Trey has helped us tremendously by architecting and developing a new platform to consolidate all radio broadcasting data sources under one roof, he then used that platform to power the iHeartRadio applications in many settings.
