Secrets Of Kickstarter: What You Need To Know To Have A Successful Campaign

MakeIt NYC is proud to present Kickstarter's own Stephanie Pereira and an all-star panel of Kickstarter luminaries! If you're considering doing a Kickstarter campaign, or even if you're just curious to learn some inside ball, don't miss this! Five successful projects tell you how they did it, and answer your questions, too.

The panel will be focused about how the panelists took their ideas and designs for real, physical things from the drawing board to delivering them as rewards at the conclusion of a successful campaign, and Stephanie will be sprinkling in her accumulated wisdom about Kickstarter. Topics include:

Making a successful Kickstarter Video,
Supporting your campaign with PR,
Kickstarter metrics and statistics,
Taking your idea through the prototype and fabrication stages,
Low-volume and short-run manufacturing tips,
Intellectual property and other legal issues,
Surprises along the way,
What the new changes to Kickstarter mean to them, and to you.

Our Panelists:

CW&T, the creators of the fabulous Pen Type-A! They set out to raise $2500. They got over 100x more than that. Guess that'll happen when you create the most awesome writing instrument since the quill! CW&T shares their details with getting the pen realized and in the hands of their fans.

Bitbanger Labs, the creators of Remee, the REM enhancing Lucid Dreaming Mask! The Bigbangers had a dream, about creating a mask that would help people... dream. They woke up to over $500k in funding. Learn about controlling your dreams - and having a more successful Kickstarter reality.

Hickies, Inc., the creators of Hickies! Mariquel & Gaston of Hickies freed the world of the drag of having to tie your shoes, the unsightly appearance of a loop of shoelace, and the embarrassment of velcro. Hickies turns your kicks into something cooler and easier - and over 3000 backers on Kickstarter agreed to the tune of $160k!

Josh and Eric, just a couple of good old boys currently residing in Brooklyn, created the Mason Shaker! It's a unique four-piece cocktail shaker based round the iconic Mason Jar. They may be country boys, but they're sharpies - they parlayed their Kickstarter success into retail distribution with West Elm! Oh, and the $75k they raised ain't hayseed neither.

Yury Gitman and Joel Murphy, the creators of Pulse Sensor, attracted 491 backers and $18k for their plug-and-play, Open Source heart-rate sensor for Arduino. And their Kickstarter success gave birth to a new design and an active community! That's enough to raise anyone's blood pressure.

All this, plus pizza and soda, and maybe even a member presentation of a project that is headed to Kickstarter!
