Pictures are the language of our generation -- a powerful cultural force in an age where advertising and social media has saturated us with images. But what message do those images send? When it comes to women, much of the imagery we see daily portrays a familiar trope: women sidelined, sexualized, or depicted in supporting roles. Research shows that the impact of these images is stark: they squash aspirations. But a quiet rebellion is sprouting up -- a kind of feminism by digital imagery.

Earlier this year,Lean In,the women's foundation launched bySheryl Sandberg, andGetty Images, the world's leading image creator and distributor, teamed up to launch the Lean In Collection, an image library devoted to showcasing powerful images of women and girls.

Join the curators of that collection, image anthropologistPam Grossman, the director of visual trends atGetty Images, and journalistJessica Bennett, a Time columnist and contributing editor atLean In,for a conversation about our changing relationship with images -- and how advertisers and marketers can work together to close the visual gender gap
