We won't take "I'm not into sports" as an excuse. Fair enough, but every journalist should be paying attention to the best in sports journalism, where some of the best work in multimedia production, storytelling and reader interaction has come from. This event at The New York Times will be instructive for fans and non-fans alike if you're not a fan, that's all the more reason to come and get caught up on the lessons that could apply to your own work. We've got a home run of a panel:

Jason Stallman is the sports editor at The New York Times, and has led the staff on some of the Times's most ambitious multimedia pieces. Those include "Tomato Can Blues" and "The Jockey," and yes, some story about skiers called "Snowfall."

Carla Correais a general editor and social media coordinator at Nate Silver's and ESPN'sFiveThirtyEight.com, which promises to cover sports with a focus on stats/data. Find her at@pinkgrammar.

Jenny Vrentas covers the NFL for Sports Illustrated and The MMQB with Peter King. She spent six years at The Star-Ledger, including three seasons covering the Jets and Giants. She is active on Twitter at @JennyVrentas.

Dan Rubenstein is a producer/host for SB Nation and the host of @SolidVerbal, a college football podcast. Enjoy his tweeting at @DanRubenstein.

The panel will be moderated by Daniel Victor, a social media staff editor at The New York Times. He hangs out at @bydanielvictor. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.; the discussion will begin at 7 p.m. We'll serve light snacks and refreshments. Join us!
