Join Jeff Sternberg, VP Tech @Observer, as he walks through the technical architecture of the recently re-launched Commercial Observer, a leading source of news and information for commercial real estate professionals. The new site utilizes WordPress for editorial content and Django for the front end, loosely coupled together with the WordPress.com REST API. Jeff will explore the thought process behind the architecture, explain key code snippets involved in the system, and highlight some of the gotchas encountered along the way.

Patricia Bedard brings 15+ years of enterprise-level system architecture leadershipand full-stack computer engineering to LifeDojo - and is thrilledby the challenge of building a corporate wellness platform that doesn't justdeliver content, but uses interactive technology to guide users throughevery step of the behavior change process.
Prior to LifeDojo, Patricia worked at several financial services companiesin New York City, including Morgan Stanley, where she led the build of aninternal employee platform which handled more than 50,000 daily corporate users.She received her M.S. in Computer Science from NYU, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from McGill University.
Jeff Sternberg is the VP of Technology at Observer Media, a collection of premium lifestyle and business titles reaching audiences in the areas of innovation, commerce and luxury, including Observer and Commercial Observer.
Before Observer, Jeff led engineering teams at two fintech NYC startups, utilizing Python Django and Flask to develop data-oriented web products.
Previously, Jeff was the Chief Data Scientist at S&P Capital IQ, where he founded the Data Science team in 2011. Jeff joined Capital IQ in 2002 as a database engineer, and spent several years leading its global data collection software team.
Jeff got his start in technology via desktop publishing, where his first professional programming job involved hacking together AppleScripts to make his coworkers lives easier.
