Investor Analytics recently completed migration of their @1TB production database from Oracle 8i (8.1.6) to PosgreSQL v9.1.5. The process from start (original proof of concept/business case/due diligence) to switchover took close to a year. There were many parts of the process that were unique to oracle->PG, some unique to that particular version of oracle, and many that were general issues endemic to any large scale data conversion.
Topics to be covered:
1. Business case/due diligence
2. Data conversion
3. Application/Query conversion and issues
4. QA, QA, and more QA
5. General pointers about the whole experience
