MySQL lacks role-based security, users must be managed individually. This tends to make MySQL security administration complex, time-consuming and prone to error. This presentation discusses using Hexatier to implement and manage true role-based security in MySQL resulting in simplified user management, consistency and auditability. Additionally Hexatier is being used to mask data from internal users. Individual columns have been completely masked or partially de-identified in a variety of ways, depending on the users role. Full statement auditing has also been put into place.

Examples will be shared on a live Hexatier platform, demonstrating how users can be moved between roles and data masking changed "on the fly
