Description
Wordpress is still one of the best choices for creating a website for a nonprofit organization or social enterprise – it is flexible and powerful, and it takes almost no technical skills to understand how to get it up and running very quickly. And for any organization that doesn’t want to pay someone else to maintain their site or add content, Wordpress is perfect. But there are a few basics that you have to understand, and if you want to do fancy things you're going to need to have at least a good understanding of working within the Wordpress system.
This workshop is essentially a soup-to-nuts Wordpress tutorial where we will be building the website of one social enterprise in just one evening. We'll cover everything about getting a Wordpress site set up, including installation, configuration, optimization, choosing a design and how to manage content. We will also explore more advanced features such as how to integrate membership in to your site, add online donations, email newsletters, photo galleries, map integration, traffic analytic tools, contact forms, and a number of other options that can be added easily to Wordpress sites.
The session will be led by Leo Newball, an independent Wordpress developer and theme designer who has done work with several nonprofit organizations. We will be actively working on the site of one Goodnik member (already chosen) but you will also be able to follow along and work with your own site, so if you want to bring a laptop and try to hack your own site in one night (with a couple of experts in the room to help) you’re welcome to do that. If you are planning on following along and creating your own site, please drop a note to nate@goodnik.org and I'll can tell you what you'll need to set up in advance (i.e. domain name, hosting).
Attendees must RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/goodnik/events/59518592/
This event is $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Please pay using PayPal to nate@goodnik.org or pay through the Goodnik website.
