Julian Dunn, Product Manager at Chef, will give an introductory
presentation on Habitat: what problems does it solve, what are its key
use cases, and how to get started with it.
Habitat is a new build and runtime system for packaging, deploying and
running modern applications. Its build system borrows elements from
both NixOS's and Arch Linux's to build isolated, immutable application
packages that fully describe their behaviors.
These packages are run under a built-from-the-ground-up process
supervisor similar to systemd or runit, but with the key distinction that
supervisors can coordinate with each other over a network. In this way,
they can share state and configuration information, and are able to
influence each others runtime behavior in real time.
