Talks:

Building Microservices on App Engine with Go for The New York Times' Games Platform by JP Robinson

Ever since The New York Times decided to launch the Crossword as a web app with accompanying mobile app in 2014, the developers behind it have been bracing themselves during the nightly launch of the new puzzle and the surge of game progress flooding in shortly thereafter.

Not any more. The team in charge of the backend of the Crossword has recently rewritten the platform with Go to run on Google App Engine. We now have proper scaling, monitoring, alerting and tracing out of the box which allow us to handle spiky, write-heavy traffic with much confidence.

This talk will walk through the decisions, tools and techniques we used to re-platform to microservices, Google App Engine and Go.

Tracing 2000+ polyglot microservices at Uber with Jaeger and OpenTracing byYuri Shkuro

We present Jaeger, Ubers open source distributed tracing system, featuring Go backend, React based UI, and OpenTracing API support. We show examples of instrumenting application code for tracing and using distributed context propagation to attribute backend resource usage to top level consumers.

Going all-in with Go for command line tools by Tom Elliott

An exploration of how Yext adopted Go for building command line tools, the language features and third-party packages that helped along the way, and how we manage distribution to an 80-strong team.
