However, the service industry is rapidly changing, people are finding better-paying jobs due to minimum wage increase, back of house salaries aren't keeping up with the front of the house, & in general, the long 60 hour weeks of working in a restaurant aren't appealing anymore.

Alice Cheng is the Founder & CEO of Culinary Agents, a professional networking & job matching website designed for current & aspiring professionals in the food, beverage, & hospitality industry. Having spent years working in a restaurant & then moving on to work for IBM for 13 years in cross-industry innovation, Alice brings her knowledge of technology into the food & beverage industry to solve inefficiencies & gaps around talent sourcing & career development. Alice is a deeply experienced business, marketing & sales professional who is passionate about helping people build careers. She takes leadership roles in mentoring all levels of talent in the technology, business & hospitality spaces.


Glamis Haro - SBA -top NYS Senior Business Advisor

Glamis has extensive experience with microenterprises & business lending, as well as with Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) & Community Development Credit Unions (CDCUs). Before joining the Columbia-Harlem SBDC, she worked as the Lending & Business Development Manager at Union Settlement Federal Credit Union. In this position, she coordinated the activities of service organizations & financial institutions as well as federal programs related to small business lending.


Alex Askew - Cofounder of BCA Global & Professional Chef

With a focus on eating lifestyles & trends in new menu alternatives, he began food research, development, & consulting for companies; General Mills, Hilton Hotels, AramarkCorporation, Specialty Restaurants & a host of private clients. Alex has also created one of the most unique consortiums of chefs under one group (ALS Culinary Concepts) for consulting in areas of menu development, R&D, start up operations, systems & controls, training, food manufacturing, business planning & concept development.

In 1993 Alex Co-founded the BCAGlobal which dedicates itself to Education, Awareness, andExposure for young minority students seeking careers within the culinary & hospitality industry.

Alex has enjoyed guest appearances on Good Morning America, CBS Early Morning Show,and the Food Network. He was a 2001 Doctorate of Foodservice recipient from the NorthAmerican Foodservice Equipment Manufacturers, a Distinguished Visited Chef (DVC) for Sullivan University, 2011 Business Leader of Year from the Marcella Brown Foundation, inMay 2012 received the distinguished New York Institute of Technology Global Leadership Award & served on the American Culinary Federation as Board member Accreditation Commission. In 2014 Alex was Awarded 2014 National Kellogg Fellowship in Leadership.
