According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four Americans aged 65+ falls each year andby 2020 there will 29 million falls reported in those 65 and older. Fallsthreaten seniors' safety and independence and generate enormous economic and personal costs.

However, falling is not an inevitable result of aging. This is why AARP Services, Inc. and UnitedHealthCare are sponsoring a challenge on OpenIDEO, an open innovation platform for social innovation run by IDEO, the innovation and design consultancy. Participants will be invited to collaborativelydevelop tools, environments and campaigns that support people in living mobile, healthy and empowered lives. Everyone has a stake in imagining innovative ways to help prevent millions of injuries from falls each year across the world.

We are excited to invite you for a one-day design jam where you would be invited to generate innovative solutions to this complex and important social challenge using theHuman Centered-Design Process (a.k.a. Design Thinking). This is a great opportunity to learn and / or hone your design thinking skills while collaboratively develop solutions addressing the issue of mobility and aging. Teams will developinspirational ideas and light prototypesthat they can post on the OpenIDEO platform and take them to the next level with OpenIDEO community's feedback. Moreover, two teams will be awarded up to $500 each as prototyping money to advance their idea.
