Tying your shoes. Making ice cubes. Opening a door. Are these simple daily tasks? Or are they complex, intricate mysteries of design and engineering? Enter David Rees, comedian, creator, and now host of critically-acclaimedNational Geographic Channelshow "Going Deep," here to guide us through the intersection of science, art, and the brilliance of themundane.

Simplicity in design has never been so delightful. Hailed as "The best science show since 'Cosmos',"(VICE) "Going Deep with David Rees"unites NASA scientists, kinetic sculptors, molecular chemists, glaciologists, Buddhist monks and more to uncover the awesome in the (seemingly) mundane.

For anyone who has ever wondered how to truly fulfill the design promise of "going back to basics," this event will aim toanswer why"what's the best way to swat a fly" is the best question a product designer can ask, and what the mechanics of a good handshake has to do with the future of touchscreens. Joined byBill Wasik, deputy editor ofThe New York Times Magazine, Rees will talk about about his unique approach to creativity and the offbeat humor that defines his genre-defying work.
