Anna Stork and Andrea Sreshta make up the award-winning agency, LuminAID Lab, having met at Columbia University as graduate students in architecture. They shared an interest in solar lighting technology and a common belief that design and design thinking can be used to solve problems at a global scale including improving access to basic resources. The LuminAID solar light was designed to fulfill the basic need for light in post-natural disaster situations shortly after the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti. They aimed to raise $10K on Indiegogo to pre-sell their product, exceeded their goal by over $40K, and received press in Gizmodo, Mashable, Core77, Wired, BBC.com, Inhabitat and countless other respected publications. Luminaid have since partnered with Pencils for Promise and continue to innovate new products.
