From Wall Street to Silicon Alley

A roundtable discussion with former investment bankers who made the leap into the world of startups.

Tuesday, February 5th from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm

Investment bankers are becoming a driving force behind many of today's successful startups. If you're tired of building excel models, editing powerpoints and running 'scenarios' then join four reformed investment bankers as they discuss their journey from Wall Street to Silicon Alley and learn how you too can make the leap.

Participants include:

Charles Birnbaum, Foursquare

Charles Birnbaum is the Director of mobile and international business development at Foursquare. Prior to joining Foursquare in May 2010, Charles spent nearly six years on Wall Street in both Technology, Media, and Telecom Investment Banking and Equity Capital Markets beginning his career with Deutsche Bank and ending at Bank of America. Charles holds a BA in History from Northwestern University, an MBA from the Wharton School, and an MA in International Studies from the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania.

James Moran, Yipit

Jim Moran is Co-Founder and President of Yipit. Prior to Yipit, Jim founded UnHub and 140it and previously worked at The Blackstone Group. He graduated from Harvard College in 2005 with a degree in Economics.

James Queen, Spotify

James Queen recently joined Spotify’s Content & Distribution group where he focuses on strategic and commercial analysis. Prior to Spotify, James was an investment banker at Rothschild where he worked on mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and capital raising. James holds an MBA from Stanford and a B.S. from USC.

Nihar Singhal, SeatGeek

Nihar Singhal heads business development for SeatGeek. Prior to SeatGeek he worked in Leveraged Finance at Barclays Capital and for the boutique sports investment bank, Inner Circle Sports. Following the market crash of 2008, Nihar found himself itching for an exciting opportunity outside of finance. Luckily for him, SeatGeek had just launched and the timing worked out. Nihar received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and a Masters from NYU.

Moderator: Sameer Syed, Genesis Media

Sameer Syed works in corporate and business development at Genesis Media. Prior to joining Genesis Media, Sameer was as an investment banking analyst at JPMorgan for three years and also spent a year in JPM's internal consulting program. Sameer is the co-founder of “Wall Street to Silicon Alley” quarterly roundtable. He received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan.

Please contact Sameer at ssyed@genesismedia.com if you have any questions.
