Our Meatpacking District, Manhattan Office is looking pretty damn good at three years old. We’re an eclectic team of circumnavigating polar explorers, nunchuk-wielding data scientists, pint-sized Kansan product queens, Danish hackers and freakishly strong designers. We have opinions. We’re expected to share them - right and wrong. And that’s how we build amazing things together every single day.
We’re a startup, and we all have a stake in the business. So we work hard, but we trust you to work the hours that it takes to give us the best of you - 9am or 9pm. We don’t track vacation because you can either make a decision on that with the good of the company in mind or you probably aren’t right for us anyway.

Our traffic numbers are growing, and so is our list of product and feature ideas. Not a tough problem to have, but it does mean that we need you, and all your unparalleled backend engineer knowledge, to help us scale, extend, and evolve our infrastructure to handle it all.
You’re a versatile, passionate technologist. Show us!
We’re a small, flexible team, so when you come onboard, you’ll play an integral part in engineering. Like the rest of this nimble team, you’ll be jumping between architecture, implementation, infrastructure management, and firefighting.
Our backend is mostly built in Python, using MySQL and MongoDB as data stores – everything hosted in Amazon AWS. As you can imagine, with around 5M concurrent visitors at peak hours every day, we see A LOT of data. You’ll have no shortage of challenges to solve. We promise you won’t be bored for one-five-millionth of a second.
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY
Drive development of internal and external APIs
Integrate external data sources with Chartbeat
Scaling existing backend systems
YOUR KNOW-HOW
Architectural and data modeling skills
Experience with building high-traffic systems
Strong programming skills
BS or MS in Computer Science (or related field)
Extensive JS/HTML/CSS experience
Fluency in things like AWS, Python/Tornado, MongoDB, MYSQL, Nginx
