Job Description
Are you excited about creating a next generation data warehouse from scratch? Building a business intelligence and advanced analytics capability from the ground up? Do you want to help enable a data-driven organization?
We are in the process of developing a new dimensionally modeled data warehouse, using Vertica (http://www.vertica.com ). We are looking for someone with a strong background in Business Intelligence, and specifically someone who is experienced using Vertica (experienced postgresql database designers are welcomed, too).
You have experience creating ELT/ETL scripts, and you have tons of SQL experience…people probably come to you on a daily basis asking for help tuning their queries. You are familiar with dimensional modeling, and are well versed in the inbuilt analytic functions that leading database platforms such as Oracle and postgresql provide. You’ve probably supported this platform from an operational perspective; working with database vendors’ support teams to resolve issues, or apply upgrades. You have the experience to see what needs to be done, and the roll-up-the-sleeves attitude to jump in and do it.
As a member of our analytics team, you will consult with executives, directors and managers to identify critical metrics and key performance indicators needed to support our ongoing growth. You will be instrumental in helping our company make data-driven business decisions and will be involved in many aspects of building out a world class analytics environment and BI reporting platform. This is a hands-on role, and you will get chance to leave an imprint from everything ranging from metrics and in-depth analyses, to improving our data warehouse and BI tools.
Qualifications
Required Skills / Competencies:
Substantive experience using Vertica (and/or postgresql), and designing dimensional databases (star schema)
Excellent SQL skills; comfortable using a data access tool such as Toad or SQL Workbench
Detail-oriented and results driven.
Extensive experience within an ELT (or ETL) based data migration paradigm
Familiarity with dimensional data modeling required
Familiarity with the identification and resolution of data quality issues
A bottom-line orientation eager to take responsibility and to deliver results
Independent worker with a sense of urgency, but with strong team skills and a desire to grow within FiftyOne
Experience / Background:
3+ years working as a developer / architect in an enterprise Data Warehousing / BI team
Prior experience working with leading BI reporting tools
Retail, CRM, or B2C e-commerce background a plus
Undergraduate or advanced degree in computer science, information systems, or other quantitative field
Working with internal management teams and external clients to understand and define data requirements
