SNAP builds a social discovery application, AreYouInterested.com (AYI), that leverages
Facebook data to match people who share similar interests. With nearly 60 million installs and 40,000 new profiles each day, AYI is at the intersection of Social, Big Data, and Mobile. It is also one of the largest social discovery applications on the Internet with over 7 million monthly monthly active users, and offers a completely integrated Facebook, iPhone, Android and Web application.
SNAP is focused on using using the best technologies and methods. We are a LAMP shop with two extra M’s - Linux, Apache, MySQL/Mongo/Memcache, and PHP, and use leading edge technologies like Solr, Hadoop, XMPP and ejabberD. We have an Agile development environment with a SCRUM framework and 1-week sprints. Developers are involved in discussions about what should be built and how. We have hackathon days where developers spend the whole day working on a project of their choice. We also provide a $2000/year stipend for each employee to attend classes and workshops to keep their skills on the leading edge.
