Join web and mobile experts on Fri., March 8th at the SXSW Hackathon for Social Good. Hackathons are events when programmers and designers meet to work collaboratively to build programs and applications.
The winning team's project will be recognized at the SXSW Interactive Awards.
The day will begin with short presentations by educators and non-profit organizations, followed by informational sessions on building sites and web applications to help benefit non-profit organizations:
Habitat for Humanity:
Austin Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1985 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Our entire mission and vision are anchored around our dedication to ending the cycle of poverty housing and the deeply held belief that everyone deserves a decent, affordable place to live.
Capital Area Food Bank:
The Capital Area Food Bank of Texas is the largest hunger-relief charity in Central Texas, providing food and grocery products, nutrition education and social services outreach to 300,000 clients each year through a network of 300 Partner Agencies.
Compassion & Choices:
Compassion & Choices of Oregon provides terminally ill, mentally competent adults with a network of professionals, who inform, educate and counsel them on the broad range of end-of-life options.
desigNYC is a platform that connects civic-minded designers with extraordinary non-profits serving the public good. Their focus is local. Their approach is multidisciplinary. Their process is participatory, and community-centric.

09:50am - Opening message; review the day's process
10:00am - Brief presentations from non-profit groups
10:15am - Brainstorm ideas for web and/or mobile tools or apps; Divide into groups to develop projects.
10:15am - Develop design, programming and production plan and assignments; begin design and development.
12:30pm - Lunch break
01:15pm - Project development
04:15pm - Finalization and testing
05:15pm - Present projects to judges
05:45pm - Hackathon winner announced
