Speakers:
Tasneem Manjra, Head of Network Development, Volvo Tech Fund
Tasneem is currently Head of Network Development for the Volvo Tech Fund, where she will lead marketing & strategy initiatives geared at increasing the visibility of the fund amongst startups & VCs. Prior to this, Tasneem spent the greater part of 15 years developing & executing marketing plans for startups & Fortune 500s. Most recently she was head of marketing at Poynt, where she executed partner marketing with leading financial institutions worldwide, as well as led PR & communications; simultaneously, she developed product firsts in her role as product lead for all things merchant experience & insights. A Los Angeles native, Tasneem benefitted from clean air, free health care, & poutine in Canada, where she completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto; she also holds an MBA from Pepperdine University.
Sohini RoyChowdhury, Senior Research Lead, Volvo
Sohini is a Senior Research Lead & Machine Learning/AI expert for R&D at Volvo Cars. Sohini focuses on the development of novel algorithms for AD/ADAS systems, optimal utilization of the vehicle sensor suite, & is mentoring several collaborative research projects with universities. Prior to this she was an Assistant Professor at University of Washington. She received her PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering from University of Minnesota in 2014 with a specialty in computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition, machine learning, & AI system design. Sohini has 45+ peer-reviewed, published, articles including IEEE Journal cover articles, & several Best Educator & Mentorship awards (2015-2017).
Heather Bruno, Senior Manager, Digital Business Development, Volvo
Heather is a Senior Manager of Digital Business Development for the Consumer Enterprise Digital Group at Volvo Cars. She's been labeled an athletic geek of technology' & has 15+ years of driving business partnerships across multiple industries. Her greatest successes have been within the Product Development realm where she's shepherded over 60 startups from innovation/concept to market launch. Her industry expertise includes Consumer Electronics, Software Development, Industrial Design & Engineering, User Experience Design & Development, & Manufacturing. In her free time, Heather enjoys exploring that next adrenaline rush, driving her S90, playing beach volleyball, & traveling to remote destinations.
Sharon Lai, Intellectual Property Counsel, Volvo
Sharon is Intellectual Property Counsel for the Americas at Volvo Cars. She works at the intersection of business, law & science. In her role, she works closely with engineering, business, & intellectual property teams to protect, license, develop, & monetize intellectual property. She left a career in traditional law firms to join Volvo because she was inspired by the company's focus & dedication to safety - after all, Volvo was the company that shared their patented three-point harness system (used in every car today). Sharon holds a bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley & a JD/MBA from Syracuse University. One of her favorite early career memories was initiating a microcredit loan program in a drought-stricken area south of the Sahara desert in her capacity as a Peace Corps volunteer.
Brandyn Jutovsky, Project Manager, Volvo
Brandyn is a Project Manager within the Volvo Design & Concept Center at Volvo Cars in Los Angeles. Her division is focusing on the next generation of vehicles; in a world where you are no longer driving, there are endless opportunities for in-cabin technology & interaction innovations. In order to push the boundaries of vehicle design & technology innovation, concept work is incorporating both the LA Design Studio & the Mountain View Technology Office. Prior to this role, she worked for the CEO of Volvo Car North America in business development & strategy, driving governance materials such as the long-term Business Plan & Board of Directors reviews. She graduated from the UCLA School of Engineering in 2014 with a double major in Computer Science & Economics. Outside of the office, Brandyn can be found in a yoga studio working towards her yoga teacher certification.
