Having numbers to support a conclusion is not a guarantee of its validity. Numbers can come from a variety of methods, many of which can produce fuzzy data & fuzzier results. This talk will cover a number of important & easily-avoided pitfalls in using survey data.Main takeaways:-Survivorship bias, why best practices are a bad idea,-GIGO rule, the data are only as good as the tools that collect them -- did you define your constructs well along with your questions?,-Conflating correlation & causation-Prediction isn't so predictive, unless you have all of the key variables,

Orin Davis earned the first doctorate in positive psychology, & is a self-actualization Engineer who enables people to do & be their best. His consulting focuses on making workplaces great places to work, & his research is on flow, creativity, hypnosis, & mentoring. In addition to being the principal investigator of the Quality of Life Laboratory, he is a startup advisor & an adjunct professor of business, psychology - including statistics & research methods - entrepreneurship, & creativity. He covered a number of the proposed topics in his TEDx Talk: Help Yourself to Self-Help.
