EVENT DETAILS |
IBM Developer Event: Prototyping IoT projects with Raspberry Pi & Node-RED
About this Event
NYC Blockchain Center & Founding Member IBM Developer Team cohost this series of developer events.
About the Event:
There are endless IoT devices that can be built using Raspberry PI! While it is a lot of fun learning how to program & make interesting projects using the Raspberry pi , it can also be tricky to know how to get started.
One tool that continues to make IoT & industrial solutions easier is Node-RED. Designed & built by IBM, Node-RED is a free, open source logic engine that allows programmers of any level to interconnect physical I/O, cloud-based systems, databases, & API's. Users interact with Node-RED via a browser-based flow editor that makes multi-device & multi-API integrations as easy as linking together nodes into easily understood flows.
In this talk we are going to explore some interesting projects that can be built using Raspberry PI in a TJ Bot, which is an open source project that is designed to use artificial intelligence services in a fun way! We will be exploring how we can use NodeRED to drive our development of these AI services onto a Robot in a fun & dynamic way.
By the end of this talk you should be able to walk away with:
Overall understanding of Node-Red
Creating flows in Node-RED
Connecting Raspberry Pi with Node-RED
Prototyping programs with Speech to Text, Text to Speech, Language Translator, Tone Analyzer & Weather Insight Services
Agenda:
6:00pm - doors open, pizza, drinks, & networking
7-8pm - talk & demo
8-8:30pm - Q&A
8:45pm - venue closes
Who is this event for?
This workshop is for both beginners, experienced developers, makers, tech enthusiasts, entrepreneurs & anyone who is interested in rapid prototyping or is just curious about flow-based programming.
This talk is a will be part of a larger Node-RED series called Rapid Prototyping with Node-RED & the overall take away is to show that Node-red is not only powerful, but a fun way to experiment with ideas & applications.

About the Speaker:
Pooja Mistry (@poojamakes) is a developer advocate for IBM Cloud. She works on expanding the reach of IBM's technology to New York City's developer community. Her area of interest includes prototyping with NodeRED & working with AI services to build fun & interesting things! Prior to living in NYC, Pooja lived in Boston, MA where she was working as an API automation engineer in the healthcare tech industry. She mainly works in Javascript & Java, however, she tinkers with Python. She is currently passionate about Node-RED & building IoT applications using Node-RED services. She is a strong believer in helping new technologist get up & running with technology & feel confident in their abilities to make!
