Hey GeoNYC!

Cities are just messy piles of data begging to be organized, cataloged & cartograph-ed. They compel us to look closer at urban forms & make them into points, polygons, & lines so we might turn them into something even more meaningful.

These three speakers tonight are doing the hard work of sorting through that mess of data & making it easier for us to find that meaning. Each documents, remixes or catalogs NYC (and beyond) in a unique way, & we are excited to hear them all tell their stories. We hope you'll join us.

Janine Yoong // Mapillary @janineyoong, @mapillary // Janine Yoong works at Mapillary, a street-level imagery platform powered by computer vision. Janine will be presenting NYC in maps as seen through the eyes of a machine & a mom (same thing, most days).

Lou Huang // Independent @saikofish, @streetmix // Lou Hang, a former employee of Mapzen, TransitScreen, Engagement Game Lab, & Code for America, is the Benevolent Dictator of Streetmix, a collaborative platform bringing urban planners & communities together to design streets. Lou will start with a brief introduction of why Streetmix exists & what it's used for, & then explore the future of how geodata can help improve quality of life in the built environment.
